Your Petitioners are all men of European Race, and are
fully qualified for the important posts held by them.

Your Petitioners' duties are similar to those of Inspectors
of Nuisances in England under the Public Health Act, 1876, but
on account of climatic conditions, the incidence of tropical
diseases and epidemics, and the difficulties of dealing with an Asiatic race, largely uneducated, your Petitioners submit that
the discomforts and risks attaching to their work far exceed
those of Inspectors of Nuisances in England,
Until recently the Inspectors were divided into four classes:
(A). Five senior Inspectore, salary £310 to £340.
(B). Four Plague Inspectors, salary £270 to £310.
(c). Seven First Class Inspectors, salary £240 to £270.
(D). Fifteen Second Class Inspectors, salary £165 to £225. Of the five Senior Inspectors one has retired on pension, twp have been transferred to the first class, and only two are
still classed as Senior Inspectors.
First Class
The four Flague Inspectors are now classed as Senior
Inspectors.

The salaries quoted are paid as to 80% at ls. 9d, and as to the balance at the rate of the day; a compulsory deduction of 4%
