My Lord,

I have the honour to inform Your Lordship

that in consequence of the retirement of Captain Basil Taylour, R.N., from the 1st June, 1920, a vacancy will exist in the post of Harbour Master in this Colony, and I desire

to recommend for your favourable consideration that Commander

C. W. M. Beckwith, R.N. (Retired), at present Assistant Harbour Master be promoted to the vacant post.

Commander Beckwith is eminently fitted for the appointment, possessing as he does both personal and official qualities of the highest order, and his intimate knowledge of the requirements of this Port have been most favourably commented on by successive Governors of the Colony in correspondence which is noted in the margin.

Hake, R.N.R., be offered the post of

Assistant Harbour Master that will in consequence fall vacant,

and would refer you to Mr. Severn's despatch No.149 of the 7th May, 1919, in which was forwarded Lieutenant-Commander Hake'e application for employment in the Colonial Service. Vice-Admiral Sir A. L. Duff, K.C.B., reports most favourably of Commander. Hake's energy, ability and professional capacity
