was crossing from Kowloon to Hongkong by one of the Star Ferry Launches & when about 300-400 yards from the Landing-stage,

I looked astern

A

Hongkong side, the engines suddenly stopped. and could see what appeared to be person floating on the water. The Europeans, myself included, went to the stern on the upper deck and whilst we were standing there Mr.B.D. Evans handed me his watch, took off his coat and jumped overboard from the upper deck into the Harbour, He swam a distance of about 100 yards until he came to the man who was floating on the surface of the water. He swan back with the man and was assisted on board with him. The man whom Evans rescued was in an unconscious condition when rescued & brought on board When Evans with the drowning man was nearing the launch a Chinese male dropped in-

to the water but his assistance was not required as vans seemed quite fit to deal with the matter alone).

Mr.Ivans was in the water for about 3-4 minutes before he got back to the launch with the drowning man,

There was a strong current running at the time and it was

bitterly cold.

Immediately the drowning man was rescued and brought on board all hands, Evans included, rendered First Aid,

On arriving at the Landing-stage I got an Indian Constable to bring an ambulance, and the rescued man was removed to Hos-

pital. I next telephoned to the Central Police Station and apprised the Inspector on Duty of the occurrence.

18/2/20.

James Henry Kynoch.
