My Lord,
With reference to Mr. Severn's Despatch
No. 78 of the 14th March, 1919, I have the honour to inform
Your Lordship that during the absence on leave of Mr. J. Morris,
Chief Accountant of the Railway, the duties of his office were
carried out by Mr. G. A. Walker in addition to his own duties
as Chief Storekeeper. The Manager of the Railway has reported most favourably on the work done by Mr. Walker which has in-
-volved a considerable amount of overtime on his part and I
desire therefore to recommend that Mr. Walker be granted a
bonus.
2.
Both officers are now on their maximum
salary and the difference is so small that the granting of acting pay to Mr. Wolker in accordance with the rules would have been inadequate for the extra work performed and I have therefore to request your authority to pay to Mr. Walker a bonus at the rate of 884 a month from the 19th of March to the 31st December, 1919, this being the sum drawn by Mr. Walker as acting pay when Mr. Morris was last on leave in 1913.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient,
humble servant,
