RECE 8 FEB 19
9 Rosary Gardens
S N. 7.
February 1919.
In view of the approaching retirement of Sir Henry I May, Governor of Hongkong, which, by means of the several consequent promotions in the Colonial Service, is likely to create a vacancy as Administrator in one of the smaller Colonies, I have the honour to submit that my name may be
considered for appointment to such post.
2. After 20 years in the Royal Navy, for which I
receive no pension, having voluntarily resigned my commiss- -ion and joined the Emergency List, I entered the Colonial Service in 1899 as Assistant larbour Master at Hongkong where
in that capacity and as larbour Yaster I have been ever since except for the past four years, during which I have been lent for service in the Navy, and have been employed in France and Italy in most responsible posts, where my efforts have
received approbation. I attach hereto a translation of a letter addressed by my Italian colleagues at Genoa to the
Admiralty at Rome, which speaks for itself in showing my
Under Secretary of State
success
Colonial Office.
