Inform Ina. Mackie that no increase in H.K. pensions has been granted as a general rule, but in certain cases of small pensions, the pensioner may make special application and show good cause why his pension should be increased if obvious hardship would be alleviated thereby.

The payment of a temporary measure of relief pending consideration of the whole question has been authorised in certain cases, e.g., an increase of 25% on pensions. The receipt of any general increase in pensions will not fail to be considered when his case comes up for consideration, and he will be permitted to participate in it if sanctioned.

A.S. 17.10 CO 406 57803 82 Blenheim Place 133 Aberdeen Ho RECO L AFC 9 OCT 101 8th October 1919

Sir,

I have the honour to state that I have been informed (unofficially) that the Hong Kong Govt. has granted an increase of 25% on the pensions of their Police Pensioners dating from the 1st of January last, and that several of them received their back pensions last month.

As yet I have not received any back pension, nor any official intimation on the subject, I would therefore respectfully request you to be so good as to let me know (at an early date) the reason why I am not permitted to participate in this increase.

I have the honour to be,

Your Most Obedient Servant, I. Mackie, late Chief Inspector, Hong Kong Police

The Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office, London, S.W.
