I have the honour to state that I have been informed
by the War Office that I am required to return to Hong Kong at an early date, and I beg to submit the following facts for
consideration, I was appointed to the Hong Kong service in
During 1910 and returned to England on the 24 January 1915.
this tour of service, I received no vacation or pay leave
until I left Hong Kong on the 23rd Dec. 1914, although I was entitled to the ordinary vacation leave whilst in the Colony,
With the permission of the Secretary of State I joined H.M. Forces on the 7th March 1915 and served until I returned to
Hong Kong on the 13th July 1916. During my military service, I had to work extremely hard as an Assistant Adjutant of a large Reserve Regiment. On my return to Hong Kong I had to at once take up the duties of Acting Auditor for over a year
and in addition a lot of extra work in connection with the Enemy Property Accounts, and after the death of the Assistant Auditor, I was left in sole charge from August to December 1917, when the Auditor returned. On the 18th May 1918, I left Hong Kong for England and arrived in London on the 18th July, and remained on leave until the 26th September when I assumed
my duties at the War Office.
