That he might be given the opportunity to confront
and cross examine the witnesses against him and for this
purpose to appear by Counsel and Solicitors.
(3) That he might be given the opportunity to call and
estamine and re-examine his ow witnesses and to do so after
hearing the evidence against him and for this purpose to
appear by Counsel and Solicitors.
(4) That he might be given the oportunity to Apneat
and make his efence by Counsel and solicitors both before
the Secretary for Uhinese Affairs and before the Executive
Council.
The answer of the Colonial Secretary is contained in a
letter of the 18th Decmber:-

"In reply to your letter of the 14th instant relating to
"procesnings against your client under the Denortation
"Ordinance 1917, I am directed to say that the Secretary of
"Uhinese Affairs is prepared to interview your client
"further if he so desires, and to take any further state-
