With further reference to your letter of the 5th instant A/40603.
and to my reply of the 9th, I beg to advise you that I am now in re-
ceipt of a reply from my brother to the cable which I sent to him in
order to ascertain the exact position.
He tells me that my telegram to him was mutilated in trans-
mission, but asks me to advise you that the greater part of the di-
rect liabilities of the Hongkong branch of our old firm to British
and Allied creditors has already been met and that, with regard to
the indirect liabilities, an undertaking has been given to creditors,
which the latter have found satisfactory and have approved. He asks
me furthermore to advise you, that we would be prepared to meet or
give a similar undertaking with regard to such further liabilities
which British and Allied oreditors are in a position to substantiate,
but that he must decline to liquidate any sume which may be due by
the Hongkong branch of the old firm to enemy creditors.

a part of the claims against the estate mentioned in the liquidators'
