His Majesty's Minister has the honour to acknow-
ledge the receipt of an Aide-Memoire from the Wai Chiao
Pu dated the 9th. instant on the subject of the gun-
boats "Kuangli" and Chiangkung",

His Majesty's Minister has the honour to atate in
reply that the Kuangtung Authorities were permitted to
take over the gumboats in question, which properly belon
to that Province, in view of their being urgently requir-
ed for river patrol work in connection with piracy.
