I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your
despatch No.117/1916 of the 2nd, instant enclosing copies of
correspondence regarding a case of the smuggling of ams at
Svatov.
The incident referred to socurred as long ago as last
March and was fully considered by se in consultation with the
Inspector General of Customs at the sine. Information shows!
that the matter ms one that concerned the Chinese Maritime
Customs and the Chinese Government.
There was at that ti
general agreement between the Powers, such as now exists, t
prohibiting their mtionals from importing arms and ammunit
into China ;, and the case resolved itself into one of some"
contraband, in which I could not see my way to int
