I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your
Excellency's no te of the 17 th ultimo etating that the
import of all opium into China irrespective of its country
of provenance is prohi bi ted,
I have informed His Majesty's Government accordingly
and have also, in accordance with your request,

instructed
His Majesty's Consulà to bring this prohibition to the
notice of all British merchants roaldent in China,
I avail, etc.
