Sir:-

I am directed by Earl Curzon of Kedleston to

refer to your letter (44489/1919) of the 14th ultimo,

in regard to Sir Charles Eliot.

While fully realising the disability under

which the University of Hong Kong is placed as a

result of Sir Charles Eliot's absence at Vladivostock,

Lord Curzon hopes that in view of the very confused

situation in Siberia at the present time, and the

need for the continued presence of Sir Charles Eliot

at his post as British High Commissioner, the

University will agree to postpone a decision in

regard to Sir Charles Eliot's return for another six

months at any rate.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

I am,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble Servant,

Geral Spicer
