I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign
Affairs to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the
0.05. 11th ultimo 57679/1918 regarding the return to Hongkong
of the enemy residents who were sent from that Colony
for interment in Australia.
Mr. Balfour desires me to say that he sees no objec-
tion to the course of action suggested by Mr. Secretary
Long but he considers that the procedure adopted should
be uniform for all Colonies.
