letter! No.47000/1919 of
27th. August, respecting the appointment of an Assistant
Station Officerin Hong Kong Fire Brigade, I have the honour
to inform you that we have secured a suitable candidate,
Mr. G.C. Moss, who is at present serving in the London Fire
Brigade. We have arranged for him to undergo a short course
of instruction in Steam Fire Engines of about a week's
duration before he sails and, as he must relinquish his present
appointment in the London Fire Brigade for this purpose, we
shall be glad to have the Secretary of State's authority to
pay him half salary from the date of commencement of the
course until the date of sailing, to enable him to provide
for the support of his family during that period.
