With reference to our letter of the 27th January I have the honour to inform you that the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation desire to deposit with us the undermentioned securities on account of their note issue :-

£100,000 Chinese 5% Reorganisation Loan.

50,000 Chinese 5% Gold Loan 1908. 155,000 City of Tokyo 5% Loan 1912.

68,000 Manchurian 4% Loan.

In view of the fact that the abovementioned securities are not included in the Securities authorised by the Trustee Act 1893, I have to enquire whether the Secretary of State approves of our accepting them.

3. As the Bank are pressing for a decision in the matter we shall be glad to receive a reply as soon as possible.
