I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

your letter No. 2309/1917 of the 10th instant, but would point

out that there appears to be a mistako in the last paragraph.

2.

At the interview with the Governor on the 7th

instant His Excellency definitely stated that I should not be

allowed to suffer any pecuniary loss on resigning the command of

the Corpe, but the Allowance proposed in the last par graph of

your letter entails a loss of $600 per annum exclusive of the further loss of £5 per diem which amount I have drawn since the

outbreak of War.

3.

Of course I am aware that it would not be reason-

-able to expect to be allowed to continue to draw any of the latter allowance, but I request that so far as the Command allow- -ance is concerned, and in consideration of my long service and the special circumstances, I may be trented in the same manner ne Mr. H. E. Wodehouse, C.M.G., who on relinquishing the command of the Fire Brigade for precisely similar reasons as myself in the present instance, viz. for the convenience of the Government, was permitted to retain his allowance of 8110 per month as part of his pensionable amoluments. I would therefore request that the sum of $900 per annum be grmted as a personal allowance in lieu of the proposed allowance of £300 per annum.

4.

I would also ask that His Excellency may be pleased

to grant me permission to retain my rank and wear the uniform of the Corps on retirement.

I have etc.,

(Sd.) Arthur Chapman,

Lieutenant-Colonel.
