With reference to the correspondence

Bar syiling

noted in the margin, I have the

honour to enquire whether it would be

possible to replace the seven machine

guns and 200,000 rounds of ammunition

lent to the Government of South

Africa by Lewis Guns .303 inch.

In the opinion of the General Officer

Commanding this type of gun would be the most suitable for the

Hongkong Defence Corps, and he suggests that twelve guns with

350,000 rounds of Small Arm Ammunition .303 inch Mark VII would be sufficient. This Government would be prepared to pay

for the excess of value of these arms and ammunition over that

of the arms and ammunition above mentioned.
