De 2 JAN }

My Lord,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 15th November, 1919.

241

With reference to Your Lordship's Despatch

No. 387 of the 4th August, 1919, forwarding an application

from Mr. Alexander Grant for a pension or gratuity in respect

of his services as a Revenue Officer, I have the honour to

inform you that Mr. Grant has returned to the Colony with a

view to obtaining employment in the East.

2.

As his presence here did not appear

desirable, I decided, with the advice of the Executi ve

Council, to grant him a 2nd Class passage to England with a

gratuity of £100 to be paid on his arrival. He has, however,

succeeded in obtaining employment in China under the Chinese

Maritime Customs and the matter has therefore been allowed to

rest pending his further application.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

B. E. Stubbs

Governor,&c..

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

VISCOUNT MILNER, G.C.B.,
