In continuation of my appeal of 3rd June, 1919, applying

for the restitution of thirty Hongkong and Shanghai Bank shares,

deposited with the Bank's Head Office at Hongkong, and the

interest accruing thereon, and indicating that such money, being

Chinese Custom Retiring Allowance Money and in the nature of a

Life Assurance of the Tontine Class, would appear to enjoy the

some privileges that are accorded to such investments under Section 10 of the Draft Treaty, and in order to discharge certain

obligations incurred and daily accumulating, as well as on account of the exhausted state of funds required for the suste- -nance of my family and myself, I now have the honour to apply

against the security of the above mentioned shares and the

interest accruing thereon:

1. for a single payment of £5,000 (dollars Five

Thousand) to discharge the most pressing part

of the obligations incurred on account of being

deprived for over two years of my former source

of livelihood in the Chinese Customs Service,

and

2. for a monthly grant of 8500 (dollars Five

Hundred) to keep my family and myself housed,

clothed, and generally provided: my family con- -sisting of three grown-up persons and two child-

I venture to trust that you will take the special character of the money as being in the nature of a Tontine Life Assurance md the pressing need for liquid funds into kind consideration and see your way to grant this application.

The Custodian of Enemy Property, Hongkong.

I have etc., (Sa.) A. H. Wilser, formerly Commissioner in the

Chinese Customs Service.
