GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 28th August, 1919.

With reference to Sir Henry May's Despatch

No. 188 of the 27th June, 1918, I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that on the return of Mr. A. W. Daily from active service Mr. M. McIver who has been acting as First Boarding Officer in the Harbour Department reverted to his pay in the post of Junk Inspector, but owing to the necessity of appointing Commander C. W. Beckwith, the Assistant Harbour Master, to apt as Superintendent of Imports and Exports, Mr. McIver is still carrying out the duties of Assistant Harbour Master and other duties not connected with his post. I have therefore granted him, subject to your approval, an allowance of $100 per mensen while carrying out the extra duties devolving on him.

2.

I shall be glad to receive your covering

authority for payment of this allowance.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,
