Hon. Colonial Secretary,

On learning from you the opinion of the Attorney

General, I gave Mr. Hamilton permission to take legal action

if he were advised that he has a good case. It is of course

understood that the Government stands behind Mr. Hamilton.

The latter has been advised by Messrs. Deacon,

Looker, Deacon and Harston that he has a good case and Mr.

Potter has been retained on his behalf.

I think that the letter goes beyond fair

comment and exceeds the limit that a self respecting Government

should tolerate.

Messrs. Deacon, Looker, Deacon and Harston have

the matter on hand. I have authorised the retaining of Mr.
