GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 18th June, 1919.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

Suri/19 of Your Lordship's despatch No. 137 of the 26th March, 1919,

ove

and to inform you that I referred the question of Mr.P.N.H, Jones' contribution to the Widows and Orphans' Pensions to

the Directors of these Pensions.

2. The majority of the Directors are of opinion that Mr. Jones' application cannot, under the existing Ordinance, be granted, but I consider that it should be possible for an officer to increase his contributions in this manner if he so wishes.

3. As I have already pointed out in my despatch No. 8 of the 8th January last the Widows and Orphans' Pensions Ordinance requires revision and if Your Lordship approves of this revision such matters as that now in ques- tion can be considered when any amendment is drafted.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

Caurteven

Officer Administering the Government.
