The needed Staff would be according to
the method of calculation given on page 4 above; one
3rd. Grade English Master (as Headmaster) and one
3rd. Grade English Master and 4 Assistant English
Mistresses and 15 Chinese Assistant Masters for
20 Divisions; or 2 3rd. Grade English Masters,
Assistant English Mistresses and 15 Assistant
Chinese Masters, in all. But in the calculation on page 5 are already included for Wantsai School
2 English Masters, 2 Assistant English Mistresses,
and 8 Assistant Chinese Masters. Thus the increase
over the figures on page 5 for Wantani School would be 2 English Assistant Mistresses and 7
Chinese Assistant Masters.
VIII. FRESH EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS,
The Government provides for education
in three ways, by conducting schools itself, by giving educational grants to various religious
bodies, and by subsidies.
The Government Schools are almost ex-
-clusively for English and other "foreign" children,
for Chinese, and for Indians. English is taught in
them all.
The Grant Schools serve Chinese,
Eurasiana, Portuguese, and any other nationalities that care to attend them. They mainly give instruction in English; but there are Vernacular
Grant Schools where Chinese is the sole language.
