I have the honour to forward the enclosed
copies of the Trade and Shipping Returns of Hongkong for
1918.
The volume contains the first complete year's
returns that have been compiled; and Mr. D. W. Tratman,
Acting Superintendent of Imports and Exports, in his introductory note gives some interesting particulare regarding them. With regard to paragraph 4 of that note
I hope that in later years it will be possible to develop
the returns on the lines indicated.

the excellent work which has been done by Mr. Tratman and his staff in bringing this initial volume to completion.
