The parties associated in carrying on the service own
upwards of 60 launches of which 16 are allocated to the ferry
service and ply between Hongkong and Yaumati. These 16
launches represent a capital value of upwards of $320,000.
Four launches are allocated to the day time service of the
Central District and four to the Sheung Wan District, Four
to the night service of the two districts and four are kept
in reserve, These launches are amply sufficient to meet the
demands of the present traffic. If any additional launches
are required at any time they are supplied by the remaining
launches owned by the parties conducting the service whose
resources in this direction are a valuable factor in enabling
them to easily meet the contingencies of public needs.
7.
When the reorganised service was instituted the traffic
was about three million passengers a year. It has now risen
to upwards of six million passengers a year.
Prior to the
outbreak of war, the number of yearly passengers was sonstant-
ly and steadily rising but since the outbreak of war it has
remained about stationary.

further increased to four cents on account of the rise in
the price of coal; our clients are now about to again reduce
it to three cents.

In organising the old independent service and in improv-
ing the reorganised service our clients have carried out a
work of great public benefit and have satisfied a fast
growing public need. The number of passengers yearly carried
by them is ample evidence of this. The service has alwayB
been carried on to the satisfaction of the public and, our
