GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 12th. March, 1919.
Gor $591715.
With reference to Sir Henry May's Despatch 56595 No. 413 of the 31st. December, 1914, I have the homur to
inform Your Lordship that the Colonial Secretary has again
represented that the clerical staff of his department have been compelled during 1918 to perform continuous overtime
work in carrying out the duties of the office. I would point
Lave out that the staff has received no recognition of their
untiring efforts to cope with the increased volume of work since the end of 1914, though the necessity for overtime work
has been continuous throughout the whole period of the war,
2.
As I considered that some substantial
recognition should be granted for the work which had been performed, I sanctioned the payment of bonuses in respect of
1918 to the officers concerned, as shown on the enclosed statement and I now submit my action for Your Lordship's
approval.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient,
humble servent,
Alustevein
Officer Administering the Government.
