GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 10th. March, 1919.

My Lord,

I have the honour to acknowledge the

receipt of Your Lordship's telegram of the 22nd. February regarding the vacant appointment of Captain Superintendent of

Police.

2.

Mr. Wolfe, when Head of Sanitary Depart-

-ment, showed conspicuously the qualities required in m officer who is responsible for the organisation and discipline of a considerable body of men, and his brief administration as Captain Superintendent has been markedly successful. Sir Henry May fully considered the claims of the Deputy Superintendent, and he was unable to recommend him for the appointment. He was satisfied that Mr. Wolfe was the most suitable candidate, and he left instructions that his name

was to be put forward.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

CandSeven

Officer Administering the Government.

HE RIGHT HONOURABLE

VISCOUNT MIINER, G.C.B.,
