At the end of December the only partner resident here-r I.
Humphroys-was before the Guildhall Tribunal for exemption frez
Military Service,& it was then stated by the Military Represen-
tative that the War Office & The Colonial office were in
cent unication with the N.M.Gevorner in HongKong in respect to our
partners contention that a Military Service Act had been passed
by the Legislature there.
Mr Murphreys contention was that as the partners eut East are en
Military Service & under Military central, it was impossible for
us to secure the release of one of them for despatch to this
Country to replace the resident partner here; but on the last appearance of Mr Humphreys-in early January-the Tribunal gave hiz
up to the 24th March to enroll-without, we submit, considering the
aspect of the position detailed.
Te have appealed against this decision,& the case is to come
before the House of Carrens Appeal Tribunal on the 28th inst,& in
view of the urgency of the matter we shall be extremely obliged
to receive some indication,er reply, from you on the subject.
