which it was alleged the Master ought to have performed and the steamer was delayed further 6 days making 13 ̊ in all.
Subsequently the cargo which had been taken out of the vessel at Penang was released and owners had to forward it to Manila.
Certain civil actions were also brought against owners a Manila. The very heavy fine which had been inflicted upon the in_the_criminal proceedings in the Court of the First Instance was reduced on appeal from 50,400 pesos to 1006 pesos and the civil action which was commenced by certain consignees of the cargo resulted in the judge deciding that the forwarding expenses of the cargo had to be borne by the Prince Line.
Owners have had a statement and supplementary statement made up showing the details of the above mentioned figure of £2510 7.2.plus £5769.0.2. the loss of earnings during the period of 13 ́days detention namely 7 days at Pepang and b days at Manila, and
I trust that their chain for reimbursement of the totalģ8279.7.41 ror:will meet with your favourable considerationes:
BAS, "AYVERIC" As you will doubtless remember similar cir- cumstances arose in the case of this vessel which arrived at Hong- kong op the 1st September1016 and completed the discharge of her cargo for that port on the 2nd September. The local Government Authorities instructed the Master to discharge 1255 packages as p list, but before steamer sailed 443 packages were released and carried on by the steamer. Steamer was seriously delayed at Hong- kong owing to difficulty of locating this cargo, and did not sail from Hongkong until the oth; September. All the earge was sub- sequently released and forwarded to Manila by the s.s."Yuengang". Profiting by the experience of the Chineser Prince the Master toc all precautions to obtain documents as far as possible to avoid fine at Manila on account of the cargo left at Hongkong. One con signee whose cargo was detained at; Hongkong filed an attachment against the vessel for 281000 pesos and other consignees contemplat similar action but were circunvented by the quick despatch of the steamer.
I enelose Owners statements amounting to £5745.17.11 for I expenses and detention and trust this claim will also meet with yo
favourable consideration.
