The Lords Commissioners of His Lajesty's Treasury
have had before Them the following proposal
1. The issue to Naval Office.s living on Shore and to Civilian Officers in His Majesty's stablishments on the China Station, including 7ei-hai-wei, of their pay and allowances in dollars at the rate of 2/- to the dollar in cases of the total emoluments not exceeding £300: and in cases of total emoluments over 300 the issue of £300 and half the surlus above that sum in dollars at 2/- to the dollar and of the remainder in sterling.
2. The issue of 80% of their pay in dollars at 2/- to the dollar to all of ficers and men afloat, who are stationed
in China.
In reply I am to request you to inform the Lords Commissioners of the admiralty that Hy Lords while unable to assent to these proposals in their present form, sanction the following modified arrangements :-
1. Tersonnel on Shore.
As sanctioned for Army Officers and ten in the enclosed copy of correspondence with the far Office.
2. Personiel Afloat.
Conversion of 50% of pay and allo, ances throughout into dollars
at 29. to the dollar.
The limitations laid down in Treasury Letter of to-day's date to the Tar Office will apply also to naval personnel, i.e. as regards exclusion of separation allowances or allotments, and of personnel stationed at Wei-hai-wei.
