The Chairman of the War Trade Intelligence Department presents his compliments to the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies and bege to transmit herewith copies of memoranda prepared in the War Trade Intelligence Department with regard to stocks of hemp stored at Hong Kong for Karl Pfister of Wohlen) for the purpose of transmission if thought fit to the authorities at Hong Kong.
It may be added that information has recently been received to the effect that 22 bales of knotted manila Hemp, value £1665, were shipped by the Japanese Vessel "Atsuta Maru" from Hong Kong to Stockwell & Co., Ltd., shipping agents, 16 & 18, Finsbury Street, E.C., for ultimate forwarding to Karl Pfister, Wohlen, vis Bordeaux.
The marks of the bales are U.D.P. 1/8 99, 151/61, 163/4, and the primary consignor was U. de Poli, manila, who cannot be traced and is probably an employee of Martini & Co., or some other kanila firm.
Copies of the memoranda are being transmitted to the Foreign Office and to E. M. Board of Customs & Excise.
