C.With reference to your letter of the 11th natant, No.26994/1918, I am commanded by the Army Council to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that Mr Richard Carrington Bar- low, formerly a Temporary Lieutenant in the Machine Gun Corps, was tried by a General Court Martial at Clipstone Camp on the 9/12th April 1918, and convicted upon the following charge:-

"Then on active service deserting His Majesty's Service,

in that he,

at Clipstone Camp, on the 17th day of、 January 1918, when in arrest, absented himself from No.3. (Res) Battalion, Machine Gun Corps, until apprehended by the Assle- tant Provost Marshal in London on the 4th day of March,1918.

The sentence passed upon him was one of Dismissal, the Gazette announcement of which was published on the 28th May with effect from the 8th idem, up to which date he would receive pay as an officer.

Mr Barlow was called up for Military Service and joined the 4th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment on the 13th May, 1918, from which date he would receive pay as a soldier,
