lo my despatches Nos. 121 und 240 of Mayah 27th and June
7th, 1913, I had the honour to forward to the Yoreign Office
copies of correspondence with the Tai Chiss Pu concerning
the regulations for the election to the National Assembly of
members rèpresenting Chinese resident in British Colanies.
The attitude of His Majesty's Government was clearly laid
down in the Memorandum to the Vai Chiao Pu af Hay 26th, 1913
(enclosure In, 2 in my despatch No.240 of June 7th (15) and
the Foreign and Colonial Offices agreed that that memoran-
dum contained the last word on the question and required no
supplementing. Neither was any further reply received
from the Chinese Government at the time.
Now, however, that preparations are being made for
general elections to a new Chinese Parliament, I have receive
ed from their Excellencies the Governors of Hangkang and of
the Federated Malay States despatches, copies of which are
enclosed herewith, showing that the Chinese Javernment ara endeavouring to renew their attempt to abtain representatiss
in the Chinese Senate of Chinese objects resident in those
Colonies.
I have accordingly addressed a Note to the Wại Chims Pu of which a copy is encloses herewith, protesting against
