No. 161:

H.B.M. CONSULATE GENERAL,

SHANGHAI.

March 30th, 1918.

A

sir,

ju

I have the honour to forward copy of a letter from the British Chamber of Commerce enclosing the report of a Joint Committee of the Chamber and the China Association on the subject of the protection of British Trade Marks in China.

The Chamber have asked me to telegraph the fist of this report to the Foreign Office, but as the question is one affecting British commercial interests in China and in regard to which other Chambers of Commerce have already been consulted, I have thought advisable to send you the report in order that you may if you think fis, telegraph to the Foreign Office after learning the views of the other British Chambers concerned.

As the matter is somewhat urgent, I venture to suggest that the British Chambers of Commerce at Tientsin, Hankow and Canton, to whom copy of the report has been sent, should be asked by telegraph if they concur in the Joint Committee's views.

An interesting reference to the new Trade Marks Bill will be founded in the Board of Trade Journal of January 17th, 1918,

Might Honourable,

(300)

I have, etc.,

CONSUL GENERAL.
