SHANGHAI, 31st January, 1918.
Sir,
With reference to Foreign Office Despatch No.26 of
the 22nd May 1917 in regard to the case of Messrs.J.A.
Wattie & Company Limited, I have the honour to enclose
herewith a copy of a letter which I have received from
Mr. Duncan McNeill Legal Adviser to the Company.
From this letter it will be seen that the Company
has accepted the view taken by the Legal Advisers to the
Foreign Office that it is not relieved from the obliga-
tions cast upon it as a China Company under the Order in
Council. It would appear unnecessary therefore that any proceedings should now be taken under Article 3 (3) of
the Order in Council.
I have, etc.,
(signed) A.G. Mossop.
Acting Crown Advocate.
Sir E.D.H.Fraser, K.C.M.G.
His Majesty's Consul General,
SHANGHAI.
