With reference to your letters of November 20th 1917 (55292/1917) and May 20th 1918 (21235/1918)
I am directed by His Majesty's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to enclose copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking with reference to the two proposed amendments to the China (Companies) Order
in Council 1915, and to enquire whether the Secretary
of State for the Colonies sees any objection to the
issue of the Order in Council.
I am to add that, if Mr. Secretary Long agrees, Mr. Balfour would propose not to add a definition of "resident".
A similar letter has been addressed to the
Board of Trade.
