Referring to your letter of 7th January 1918, I have the honour to report that I have again examined Mr. Kenneth Mclennan, Land Bailiff, Hong Kong, whom I saw on the 25th September 1917. There is not much improvement in his condition. He is not under medical treat- ment, but has lost weight a little, and looks thinner. His digestive tract is still out of order with tendency to loosenças irritable tongue, and evidence of intestinal indigestion. also some rheumatic pains.

I am unable to certify him in good bodily health and in all respects physically fit to work. He was invalided on account of Sprue, a troublesome complaint liable to recur.
i do not think it probable that he will be fit for service
in less than six months, possibly longer, and he will be liable to
to recurrence of the disease on return to the tropics.

On the whole my opinion is that a person who has bad Sprue is unfit to return to duty till after long leave in this country
prudent to permit Mr. McLennan to retire. and that it is me re
