The value of a Colonial appointment depends upon so many circumstances bailes the salary that the Secretary of State often cana judge what would be acceptabio to an offfert. Applicants for promotion should therefore, in their own interests, state as precisely as possible what they desire, either specifying certain appointments, be at least mentioning the Colonies to which they would or would not bey willing to go, and the amount of salary which they think that they may reasonably expect.
