GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG. 31st. December, 1918.
I have the honour to enclose a letter
addressed by Mr. T. H. King, Assistant Superintendent of Police to the Colonial Secretary, in which he applies for
promotion in the Colonial Service.
2.
Mr. King is m excellent Police Officer
in every way and a man of the highest character. Owing to the
few appointments in this Colony he has been unable to obtain
promotion, and his position in this respect compares un-
-favourably with Police Probationers in the Straits Settle-
-ments and Federated Malay States. For example Mr. Savi, who
is equal in seniority, is on a grade of salary of £540 rising
to £660 and a duty allowance of £100, whereas Mr. King cannot
in his present post rise above £560 and duty allowance of
£100.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Chad Sever
Officer Administering the Government.
