REC

REGL 1 FR 19

GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 23rd. December, 1918.

70763/6.

sir,

With reference to Sir Henry May's Des- -patch No. 31 of 12th. January, 1916, I have the honour to report that during the absence on Military Service of Mr. W. G. Clark, Traffic Assistant, Railway Department, since 18th. May of this year, the work of the post has again been perform- -ed by Mr. G. A. Walker, Chief Storekeeper of the Department,

in addition to his other duties.

༡.

The Manager of the Railway reports that since Mr. Clark left, Mr. Walker has been compelled to work for a considerable amount of overtime, including Sundays and

Holidays; that during the serious floods and slips which occurred in August last, Mr. Walker hardly ever left the Station from morning till night; and that he has carried on

the work in a most satisfactory manner, not sparing himself

in any way.

3.

In view of the fact that the work has been

considerably more arduous than in 1915, owing to the increase

of traffic and the further inclusion in Mr. Walker's duties of

the station accounts, I have to recommend that he should be granted a bonus of $700 in respect of the period 18th. May to 31st. December.

I have the honour to be, Sir.

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Charteven

Officer Administering the Government.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

WALTER LONG, E.P.,
