GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG. 19th. December, 1918.
Sir,
I have the honour to inform you of a scheme for the erection of a Chinese Hospital at Ün Long, one of the larger trading centres of the Northern District of the New Territories, which was brought to the notice of this Government in 1914 and which has been receiving con-
-sideration since that date.
2.
The promotere of the scheme, certain village Elders of Kam Tin, a village of some standing in those parts, expended $200 in 1915 in the private purchase of a convenient site measuring 29,000 square feet, but the scheme was then held over owing to the development of the
district in other directions.
3.
The Elders have now decided to follow up their original intention, and, being already in possession of sufficient land, they propose to collect $25,000 in sub- -scriptions of which 86,000 is to be spent on the building and the remainder invested as an endowment for the institut- |
-ion.
4.
Sir Henry May considered that it is highly desirable for the Government to encourage so deserving a
project, and proposed, subject to your approval, to refund the $200 already expended, and to make a grant of the land
purchased,
E RIGHT HONOURABLE
WALTER LONG, M.P.,
