GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 4th. December, 1918.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your Despatch No. 200 of the 10th. September regarding the fee charged by this Goverment for passports issued to Navel

Officers.

2.

It is the usual practice for the Naval

Authorities and this Goverment to charge for specific services

rendered and it has, therefore, been the custom to charge the customary fee for passports issued to Naval and Military Officers' and their families; on the supposition that, in the case of an officer travelling on duty, the fee would be paid by the Admiral- -ty or the War Office. No charge is made for passports issued to men below Commissioned rank and their families.

3.

I shall be glad to learn whether, in these circumstances, you wish the fee to be remitted in the case of

Officers who are travelling on duty.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Claussecom

Officer Administering the Government.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

WALTER LONG, M.P.,
