(In reply to No. 2145/1918).
sir.
September 5th., 1918.

I am in receipt of your kind letter of July 16, referring to Lt. Olitsky's assistance in dealing with the recent epidemic of cerebrospinal meningitis occurring in the Colony at
Hongkong.
Lt. Olitsky has now returned to New York and has given me a verbal account of the epidemic. He has told me of the many courtesies which you and the various officials connected with the Government have show him. It appears that his studies and zeal work were facilitated in every way possible. I wish, therefore, to acknowledge on my part md on behalf of the Board of Scientific Directors of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, our appreciation of the courtesies show Lt. Olitsky and to express our gratification that he was able to render this service,
I desire also to state that the letter to which you refer as having been sent us through the courtesy of His Majesty's Ambassador at Washington has been received.
I might add that I have read the report which Lt. Olitaky submitted to you upon the completion of his studios. I found it of great interest and have been happy to give my consent to its prompt publication.
Very truly yours,
(Sd.) Simon Flemer,
Lt. Col. Medical Corps, Director, Rockefeller Institute.
His Excellency Sir F.H.May,K.C M.G.,
Governor, Hongkong, China.
