If the widows on sterling pensions are suffering that is a matter for separate consideration.
2. In the matter of the various rates 3/-, 3/8 and 4/- for leave salaries and pensions of officers, a ruling of the Secretary of State is also needed.
Arguing from the fact that pensions when paid in the Colony are paid in dollars, I am inclined to think that these rates were originally laid down as "guaranteed minimum rates".
There is nothing illogical in the contention that officers and pensioners should get the benefit of the rate of the day when it is recollected that the chief reason for the so called rise in exchange is in fact the diminished value of the gold
currency.
Again, any reference to Sterling Officers is irrelevant: the above rates were fixed long before any such class was contemplated.
