I have the honour to acknowledge the

receipt of your Confidential Despatch of the 5th. July regard- -ing difficulties that were apparently experienced by the

Commodore, Hongkong, in communicating with this Government on

Sundays and holidays.

There appears to be no ground for com- -plaint. I attach copies of the only correspondence cognate to the subject, together with a copy of a letter received from

Commodore Gurner. Commodore Sandeman's letter of the 30th.

November, 1917, to which Commodore Gurner refers, related to

certain delay in the work of an official member of the

Shipping Control Committee, alleged to have been occasioned through the exigencies of a general holiday.
