I shall endeavour to correllate these communications, tracing the subsequent develoguents of the investigations starte so that in the end the principles underlying the treatment and the prevention of epidemio meningitis in the Colony will be
emphasised.
1. The fraduation of Antimendaroooogde Bazum in the

of (a) determination of the type prevailing amongst the patients in the Colony; (b) the examination of the various serums for treatment in use during the epidemia (a) the burukkkky possibi-
lity of epidemics recurring in the future and (d) the inability
of the Colony to procure reliable serum promptly.
(a) The prevailing type of meningococcus. Up to the present
tine, there were isolated from the spinal fluids of 59 patients
as many pure cultures of meningococci. These 59 cultures were
tested for type with the following results:
ortho
normal type (regular or other meningococci),
para type {parameningococol of Dopter),
irregular para type,
An additionni communication was smit July 2nd, 1918 advising
that no diagnosis of epidemia meningitis be nocepted from
mortuary olpes unless both a muroscepic and microscopio eXAM=
ination of the brain and meninges are made.
