I have the honour, at the instance of my

Prime Minister, to inform Your Excellency that 35 Enemy

Subjects were captured on the S.S. "China" in the Far East and

were sent to Australia for internment. Owing to the interven-

tion of the Government of the United States His Majesty's

Government decided to release these prisoners and to repatriate

them to Hong Kọng. The sum of £1725.3.3 was expended in this connection and is a charge against the Government of Hong Kong.

The Commonwealth Government would therefore be glad to receive

a reimbursement of this amount which is made up as follows:-
