For the HongKong Police endeavours are always made to

recruit men who have had previous Police experience; this

and other causes make the age of recruits for the HongKong

Force greater than those for the Metropolitan Force.

The average age at time of enlistment of the Inspectors and

Sergeants given on pages 128-130 of Civil Service List is

just over 24 years. This is over 2 years older than recruits

for the home forca.

Hence for the above two reasons, an officer retiring with 22

years' service for pension in HongKong is usually 4 years

older than a man retiring with the same number of years' service

in the London Forca.

Hence the above taken in conjunction with the effects of a

tropical climate show that the maximum pension in HongKong

should be obtained with less service than at home.
