At 24 years of service it becomes greater than Scheme A. A man
to obtain the maximum pension, i.e. after serving 26 years,
would as a rule have to be well over 50 years of age.
Scheme D. This is very near to Scheme A up to 10 years of
service; it then mounts rapidly up. The maximum pansion would
be obtained after 22 years' service which is too littla.
It is not until 50 years of age that the value of the services
of an inspector decreages on account of age. It would have the effect of making Inspectors retira when their services
were at the greatest value. An Inspector can well serve to the
age of 50, while after 46 a Sergeant, who is not fit for
Inspectors' rank and duties, is of little use
Scheme E. The maximum here is after about 35 years' service.
The increase of pension at the end does not commence so early
as in Scheme D. This seems the best of the proposed Schenes
on the Metropolitan lines.
+
Scheme F. is practically identical with Scheme A.

It is very difficult to estimate the increased cost of
these schemes to Government. However taking men to retire after
20 to 25 years of service the following appears to me to be
conservative figures of the ultimate cost compared to (1)
Persions on the old dollar salary and (2) Pensions under the
Sterling Salary Scheme.
